Traditional Georgian Style Estate By James V. Coane And Associates Architects And Interior Designers

This Traditional Georgian style estate sits on a gently sloping hill side lot in Pasadena.

Inspired by the historical homes of Boston, this house has a symmetrical façade and massing. It is clad in used brick with precast concrete coins, moldings, and other Georgian architectural details. To maintain an authentically historical look, the garage is not attached to the house but treated as a separate small building and designed to look much more like a carriagehouse than a garage.

The circular U-shaped driveway takes the visitors to a drop off point which is axially aligned with the front door. The brick, stone, and precast concrete details are similar to that of the main house. It’s also designed into the driveway, walkways, fountain, and other entry court landscaping details.

Upon entry to the house, you are welcomed by a large two-story entry with a sweeping circular stairway. In which you’ll see a large crystal chandelier accompanied by traditional beams, columns, and moldings that fill the interior of the house with traditional architectural details that we believe would be appreciated by architects, interior designers, and design enthusiast.

A Traditional Georgian Formal Living and Oval Dining Room

A richly detailed formal living room and oval dining room flank the entry of this house.

The Oval Dining area is used for occasional dining for about 10 guest with a traditional interior and romantic ambience. Centering the room is another crystal chandelier flanked on an oval ceiling with dentil trim molding details throughout. There are two built in cabinets to display china that have a classical element of pediment gables above. The color scheme is a mixture of various light and deep blue’s along with beige and creams that are compatible with the dark woods of the dining table and chairs. The wallpaper is a dyed silk with paper backing and painted embroidery that truly make the dining room a whimsical place to dine with friends and family.

The formal living room is a great place to entertain guest with the grand piano and seating area in front of the black marble fireplace which has a custom hand carved lacquer paneling frame. Two sconces sit about the fireplace mantel that match in design with the chandelier that help create mood lighting. All walls have two toned full paneling with fluted columns and hand carved capitals that lead the eye up to the coffer ceilings. As an architect along with my team of interior designers and architects, adding stunning details throughout a space is crucial. Overall this room is the essence of Traditional Georgian style with sophisticated classical elements all around.

A Traditional Georgian Style Family Room and Kitchen

Beyond these areas are the family room and kitchen, in addition to a butler’s pantry. One of the unique aspects of the kitchen is that it has two islands with a large breakfast area and windows for ample light to read the paper in the morning. The materials selected for the kitchen are marble counter tops, subway glass tiles, white cabinetry, and classic hardware and fixtures like the bridge faucet and pot filler. Upon entry to the butler’s pantry, a continuation of the kitchen with classic elements and marble counter tops is maintained. The walls are covered with shimmering silk wallpaper and there is crown molding throughout. The family and kitchen look out to a large grassy backyard with a pool and cabana.

A basement contains an entertainment area, the movie room, a gym, and lots of storage.

This traditional Georgian style estate on a gentle sloping hill side lot in Pasadena is truly an inspirational home of traditional Boston style great for entertaining friends and family or a place to wind down from a busy work week. We hope it brings inspiration to architects and interior designers all around.
